RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication. It’s been around for quite some time, but for some reason, even though I program or install RSS feeds into many of we websites I develop, I had never really used it. Recently I came across a few cool web design blogs I enjoyed reading and decided I’d like to check in on them more often. But, I always forgot the web address or would forget for weeks and when I checked in, there’d be so much posted since the last time I’d checked I’d become overwhelmed. I finally decided to use the RSS on the site and I tied it into my Mac Mail.
Then I became addicted.
Before I new it I was connected to over 5 RSS feeds. They basically show up like an email in it’s own box. So when the site has a new post, it’ll show up like an email and I can click to read most of the article or if it’s a long article, it’ll provide me with the direct link to the full article.
It’s a really easy way to keep up with the sites you enjoy or learn from. Most mail clients have the ability now, whether Mac Mail, Outlook, MS Mail, or others (Google, Mozilla, etc). You should try it. Actually, if you’re reading this from my website, you’ll notice in your address bar there’s an icon on the far right. Click on that and you can subscribe to this RSS feed!
Happy Syndicating!
